Terri says…
This song is about being able to be vulnerable with the one you love. Maybe you have a job where you need to go and put on a “tough” façade all day long, and hold it together. When you come home at night, you should be able to drop your guard and feel safe with the one person who loves and honors you more than anyone. Love should be a retreat from the harsh realities of the world and all the expectations it places on us.
Lyrics
Written by T Clark/T Shapiro/J Collins
Your neck is burned your body’s hurtin’
Boss man’s been on your back all day
You’re out there in the hot sun workin
While he’s sippin iced tea in the shade
You have to put up with so much & you feel beat up
But that’s all about to fade away
CHORUS
Come on, lay your head down on my shoulder
Let your troubled mind go free
All day long you’ve had to be strong, but now you’re home & I’ll make you see
You don’t have to be tough with me
You don’t have to be tough with me
Just leave your boots there by the doorway
I’ll pour us both a glass of wine
I’ll bet I can think of some way
To help bring back your tender side
It’s a heavy load to bear in your world out there
But tonight you’re back in mine
CHORUS
Come on, lay your head down on my shoulder
Let your troubled mind go free
All day long you’ve had to be strong, but now you’re home & I’ll make you see
You don’t have to be tough with me
There it is now there you go, there’s that smile I know
Let’s keep it goin all night long
All night long
CHORUS
Come on, lay your head down on my shoulder
Let your troubled mind go free
All day long you’ve had to be strong, but now you’re home & I’ll make you see
You don’t have to be tough with me
You don’t have to be tough with me

Ah… this song has always reminded me of the love I share with my favorite rough around the edges soldier. I was thrilled to see it added to the track list for the new cd and can’t wait for everyone to hear it!
PS Mike says thanks for giving him permission to leave his boots there by the doorway!

Terri,
You have done it again. We are only seeing glimpses of the new album but I know everyone agrees in saying “this will be one smoking hot album”. Can’t wait for it to be released. You’ve outdone yourself and I’m such a huge fan. Thanks for sharing such incredible and soulful music with the rest of us. We look forward to hearing more.

This is the perfect song for my older brother and brother-in-law. Both of them are strong willed men who don’t like to show their feelings espically my brother who is in the military. I love this song already. Sept can’t come any sooner.

I’ve loved Terri’s music from the beginning! She’s a great country singer and wears a cowboy hat for all of us country women! Can’t wait to hear this special song on her new album which will be released…when?

Thanks for bringing this song along with you Terri. I’ve liked it from the start. This version is crisper, and clearer. Love that this album has been taking it back to the real, and raw.

I have LOVED this song since I first heard it. To me it’s about word for word my life. I am very happy to see it come out for real this time. I know what TC is saying, once Dave gets home and those boots drop on the floor both our worlds just go away, it may be me pouring the wine or him depending on who needs it more, mostly it’s just loving being together for 27 years and along with our children and other family members being together is fulfilling to the soul! This song for me rates up there with “Just The Same” Great job TC, lovin your words!
