Kathleen Edwards – Asking for Flowers

I love this record- its purely roots music straight from the heart of a Canadian singer/songwriter- seriously, makes me want to plant myself on the deck of a cottage on a lake in Northern Ontario- and just CHILL !!

Keith Jarret – Paris Concert

This is wordless music, but at the same time I’ve never heard so much emotion- its an album I’ve listened to over the past 10 years and keep coming back to.

Mozella

Really great mixes, lyrics- just a nice pop record

Brandi Carlile – The Story
BUY from iTunes | BUY from Amazon.com
Any music lover has got to have this record. She is really brilliant.  She must have had some country influences, because , quite honestly, some of her music sounds more country than you hear on any radio stations these days. GREAT songs. Go get it NOW !

The Indigo Girls – Posiedon and the Bitter Bug
BUY from Amazon.com
I like this better than anything they have done in the past 6-7 years.  It reminds me of their earlier records, and Amy’s songwriting sounds a little more “light hearted” than some previous albums. I am in love with the song “Driver Education”- I am getting on everyone’s nerves walking around the singing it-Its about growing up in the 70′s so guess
I am showing my age.

John Mayer Trio

Great artist, great songs, great guitar playing, lots of heart and soul- I would love to see him Live sometime, other than on “Pay per view,” sitting on the bus before the show.

Hey Terri! I have the Indigo Girls CD…this is the best music from them by far. “Driver Education” is a great pick me up song. My favorite happens to be “I’ll Change”. I’m a very sentimental, passionate person (The Marine Corps did it to me) and this song says a lot about the mistakes you’ve made in your life and what’s really important, moving on and accepting. Thank you for sharing your choices.

Занимательная статья. Краткость явно чья-то сестра ;)

  3. Благодарю за то что просветили, выводы соответствующие обязательно сделаем. ;)

I just listened a little bit ago, Brandi Carliles “Give Up the Ghost” what a brilliant album. Some great love songs eh? I like “Looking Out” so much truth I relate to in this track. Thanks for the postings on new music.

Hi Terri, here’s the other link for the acoustic shows in case you’re interested. This is the place for the show. James Taylor plays here, last year Judy Collins was here, as well as at the Rockland Strand. Many well known artists have played here.

Speaking of shows have a great tour run this fall, and safe travels.

  6. Cindy says:

I found this band through Amy Ray (Indigo Girls) and find their harmonies awesome, the band is called Girlyman..check them out. Also, Amy MacDonald has a great celtic vibe to it, highly recommended.

  7. Suzie says:

Missy Higgins is a fantastic Australian artist- I promise basically anyone that they will enjoy her music. It’s sort of jazzy/indie/ and honestly sometimes even country. She’s just great!

  8. Lee Anne Baldini says:

I Love John Mayer, he is so full of heart and soul. Someone I just started listening to is David Cook. He has this great song called “Come Back to me” which is such a beautiful song that I relate to. My husband of 20yrs joined the Canadian Forces in Jan/09. It was something he had always wanted to do and the opportunity presented itself at that time. I love him so much and support him in following his dream.I am so proud of him at 45yrs old finding himself – this song of David cooks totally tells our story! If you haven’t heard it – look it up it’s worth a listen! I will definetly give a listen to some of Terri’s pics as there are some I have not heard of. I’ll be back!!!

  9. Kenna says:

Seems that my summer tunes have been across the board. I hadn’t thought much about what I had in home/work/auto players or what I had created ‘play lists’ from on my ipods….it was interesting to stop and look at/think about.
    Eclectic combination of:
Laura Izibor – “Let the Truth Be Told”
Missy Higgins – “On a Clear Night”
M.E. – too many to list
Natalie Merchant – looks like “Tigerlily” goes a lot of places with me.
Oldies.. Black Box – “Dreamland” and M People – “Bizarre Fruit” seem to be popping up alot this summer for workouts.
I have had quite a bit of time on the road this summer and “Invincible Summer” – K.D. Lang helped along the way too it appears.
Great to see what’s being enjoyed.
    Thanks for sharing!

R.I.P Ellie Greenwich first of all. This is sad, I didn’t realize the other things she was involved in. http://www.elliegreenwich.com/ a great writer for the time period. Now, Love the new song from Jake Owen, “Eight Second Ride” just can’t help liking the wild songs. I did check out the new stuff from The Indigo Girls, which is sad I should have seen it earlier in the year. Hey Terri if your friends get sick of hearing “Driver Education” just call and leave it on my voicemail. :D like the acoustic version better. Been having web problems, so here is one of the links I told you about. I know this is bigger than 500 capacity but, they sell out most of the time. http://www.rocklandstrand.com/ ok so I can’t find the other theater. I’m usually quick to find them…I have to remind myself daily I’m not perfect ;D later…

  11. Danielle Buquoi says:

I have to admit I am not sure who some of these guys are but I do love Brandi Carlile. The Story is a great ablum. I got to see her perform at the House of Blues in New Orleans. Opening for her that night was A Fine Frenzy, you should check them out. Of course, nothing compares to your music!!!

Here are a few songs I am currently listening to:
“The Way I Am” Ingrid Michaelson
    “Home” Michael Buble’
    “Save You” Kelly Clarkson
“I Gotta Feeling” Black Eyed Peas
and of course your new live album!!!!!

  13. Bren19 says:

I guess I would say my love for music started when I was 4 or 5. There was a young lady who lived 4 houses down from us, her name was Kay….she must have been in JR high/high school, I don’t know. She was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen and along with her beautiful soul she still is the most beautiful thing I’ve even seen. I was very little then but I remember like it was yesterday.

I didn’t know how to tie my shoes and they were ALWAYS untied, Kay could never stand it and was always tying my shoes, I went to their house and her Mom always said “Kay is playing her guitar” I went to get my shoes tied a lot LOL, Kay would always play and sing her written songs to me and I loved being with older people, I actually never was able to get along with my age group except for my cousins. Kay had some hunky looking brothers also….always running around without shirts LOL, my Sis was best buds with her Sis, it was a wonderful family that I learned a lot from.

Kay did teach me to tie my own shoes, so I practiced tying my shoes and she sang and played for me, I leaned how to tie and she met a guy and fell madly inlove and they are still married and live out West with their family, no music career just happy! One thing on my Ipod is all my favorites every week from American Idol, I love it because to me you can hear how bad they want a career and it’s full of emotions. There are different styles and different types of songs that normally I would not give a chance, I love downloading my favorites every week!

Danny Gokey singing “Hero” Some reason I think of Terri and her Mom and I cried the night her sang it!

  14. Jeanne Woo says:

So…. I think that I will buck the trend here and admit that I have never heard of ANY of those artists. I will check some of it out, but probably “download” them for free, lol.

I’m a little surprised that none of the “kids” got on and put out more hhhmmm… “current” music? I’m not talking about country music either (in the tradition OR non-traditional kind). I have to confess that once upon a time I listened to LOTS of country music, and I have hundreds of cds at home, that genre is by far the largest. Having said that, none of it really populates my iTouch/iPod. The songs that probably get the most play in my car are (currently) Road Rage obvs, but Michael Jackson, Vivaldi, Justin Timberlake, Pearl Jam, almost any permutation of “La Vie en Rose”, Kevin Spacey singing “Mack the Knife”, and NeYo, 2Pac, and Snoop.

 I think I’m DEFINITELY not in line with everyone else on this one.

    Cali

  15. Lynn says:

I have the standard older monitor. I can’t see some of the left side of the print. Is it just this monitor? Thanks

  16. Naomi says:

wow Dar,, total confession there.. i have to confess i went through my, Gaither, Phase also..had a friend in grade school
whos parents and aunt started a gospel group, called The Bentons. No clue whatever happened to them, but they used to travel around forever , in a powder blue, Bluebird bus.

I am of the 70/80 rock era too ,, but listen to alot of older stuff by CCR, America, Sugarloaf, The Associaton… ok.. thats enuf of dating myself … ever wanna take a listen of my, purple ipod,, just ask..lol

  17. Bren19 says:

Well I guess giving up your ipod list is kind of like letting secrets out LOL, I’ve always felt it kind of personal, I wear head phones to keep anyone from listening to my stuff and other people’s ipods usually get on my nerves LOL.

Things you might discover about me is I’m a rocker from way back in my teen days. I worked as a roadie for a local Rock and Roll band named Free Time when I was 15, we had quite the following. Every night as we finished setting up the girls started screaming “shi# GB get off your ass and jam” LOL and with one flick of a button I shot off the fire pots with a big BOMB and the guys started rockin, one night someone gave the fire pots a double dose by mistake and we set the Whiskey River bar on fire LOL….SORRY! Never forget the before fire pot days, they was havin a band party and Donny was learning how to use the fire pots, he set off what sounded like an atomic bomb in the back yard LOL, so what do rockers do when that happens?…shut the whole place down and everyone jump in the back of the tour van and speed away before the cops come LOL.

I had much fun in those days, met lots of girls and guys and it didn’t take me but a few hours to cross them off the list LOL. I finally met someone when I was almost 17 and my roadie days ended, but those days were a big part of my life, never would want to live it though!

In my ipod you will find anything from the Brady Bunch, Gaelic Storm, mercyme, lots of Terri Clark, the Monkees to Nickelback which is more like the band I used to run with. Also Janet and Michael Jackson are a must have for me. I like music that makes me feel good and want to get up and get things done, fun music! I am not all country, very little country in my ipod!

  18. Lynn says:

Hi, just checked out Kathleen Edwards space. I like it. It amazes me Terri, how different your listening is and how you are on stage. Well ok not really, but, anyway, I love Brandi Carlile’s rendition of Radioheads “Creep” I love the female spin on it. It’s in Boston too, fantastic. I checked out Keith Jarrett as soon as I read Phases,Stages… I can’t imagine you not liking Yanni… speaking of emotional. :)

  19. DARLENE PHILLIPS says:

Okay, quickly before I leave this morning…I will unveil the music that causes my kids to roll their eyes, Fran to leave altogether…and me to obsess even more than I do over Terri.

Now, please remember or discover that I am a preachers kid. My father was a United Methodist minister for 36 years. We spent our entire childhood moving every other summer to another part of WV, where my Dad would minister a “problem church”; get it functioning within the community and move on. By that, we did a lot of “bonding” ministries…so alot of my weekends were spent at gospel sings and concerts. And that is why I have such an affinity for this group…it reminds me of my childhood.

I am a Gaither Vocal Band nut. I love, love, love them. I look forward to Saturday nights when I can see snippets of their videos and such on GAC and different religious channels. I love that kind of harmony…one of my favorite songs they do is “Sinner Saved by Grace”…google it on youtube. It is the bomb…and I wanna be David Phelps (tenor) when I grow up. I’m glad Mark Lowry is back with the group…but, I will miss Guy Penrod, who moved onto a solo career.

So, the secrets out…and I’m a preachers kid to boot…now y’all know why Fran makes me take the “Terri Clark oath” before a m&g. According to Fran, preachers kids just say whatever pops into their heads…without regard to protocol…I know that we KNOW how to behave properly, we just choose not to!

  20. Ashlee Bruch says:

I love Kathleen Edwards “Asking for flowers”.

I’ve been listening to Madeleine Peyroux, she has a voice that I had a hard time telling from Billie Holiday.

John Frusciante’s “The Empyrean” is a very good “zone out and become one with the music” album.

The new Wilco album, really kicks some A.

  21. Naomi says:

hmmm , typo above.. thats,,, Till the End of Time,, by Jason & deMarco… not sure what i was thinkin about when i typed that… lol

  22. Shannon Bell says:

Hey Ter! Love this idea! Kathleen Edwards is great, my favorite song of hers has always been “Hockey Skates” – definitely worth checking out if you haven’t already. I am sure I have listened to Brandi Carlile as well, but I will definitely check out her album that you recommended. I love discovering new music, I think it’s one of the best feelings! :D

As for me, I’ve found that I’ve not been listening to as much country music as I used to, and have been listening to more pop music (not Britney young pop though). I recently discovered Mat Kearney’s new album “City of Black and White” and have fallen in love. Great melodies, and a great mix of uptempo and slow songs.

There’s so much great music coming out of the UK as well, some of my favorites are Adele (check out Chasing Pavements!), KT Tunstall whose Black Horse and the Cherry Tree album is one of my all time faves of any genre.

If I think of any others I will definitely post them here! :D Happy music listening, TC!

  23. Naomi says:

ok Dar… so i dug through my itunes and ipod.. and found one of the most unexpected cds in my collection.

I have always been a fan of incredible harmonies!!!!

There is a , male version, of the Indigo Girls. lol///kinda

They are called , Jason and deMarco.
They are pop and also have a faith based theme to some of their tunes.
The cd is called, Till the End the Day….. the tune you need to listen to , This is Love.
Im not sure what you will think of the rest of the cd(lmao)..but that one tune is a keeper!!!

    Na~

  24. DARLENE PHILLIPS says:

Gosh, I haven’t listened to the Indigo Girls in years! I may have to see if I can find their cd’s…I know they are still around, but I don’t have any of their new stuff.

Kathleen Edwards…never even heard of her…and quite frankly if I’m gonna ask for something from a girl named Kathleen, I wouldn’t be asking for flowers! (*authors note: I find the previous statement to be absolutely cute on all levels…however, it’s statements like that one that causes me to run the risk of being single at any given moment. What can say…I live on the edge. ;) )…anyway…I just might have to google this Kathleen person and see what’s up with her flowers and music. Next…

Keith J-I’ve actually heard of this guy. One of my friends actually had me listen to some of his stuff on the way to dinner one evening last week. Nice.

Anyway, the majority of the music that I listen to these days are on my old mp3 player that I keep in my gym bag and take to the gym with me.
Melissa Etheridge’s Skin is on there…I have always loved that cd. One of my faves. Melissa’s newest cd is more “political” than her old stuff…but I like it enough to workout to it. And I Run For Life gets me hoppin’ on the treadmill. And Threesome just freakin’ cracks me up…read the story behind that song on her wifes blog…

Anita Cochran’s Anita cd is on there…I love, love, love that cd. Great music right there. I know that I can listen to that cd while getting ready for work in the mornings and still make it on time. It’s a habitual routine now.

Terri’s Fearless is on there…all of Terri’s stuff is on there. But shoot, Fearless is my bible most days and it puts humpty dumpty back together again.

I have old Madonna on my gym tunes also. About the newest cd of Madonna’s that I have on there is “Ray of Light”. I loved that cd, it came out around the time my mother died, and it helped me get through that time without completely ripping apart every relationship I have. Gotta say I love the old Madonna stuff more than the new stuff.

Dolly Parton is on my gym tunes as well. I love, love, love Dolly…and it’s not just cause she’s a plastic surgery queen either. She’s freakin’ talented and funny. My gift for my 40th birthday last year was to finally see her in concert. We went to Atlanta and saw her…and I loved every last second of it. I had waited all my life to see her…I’d seen everyone that I had admired from my childhood up to that point, Barbara Mandrell, Reba, etc….but never Dolly. I don’t get to listen to Dolly much, as the one I love–who took me to see Dolly–isn’t a big fan. So, if her cd is in the truck and it actually gets put in the cd player I get snippets of every song…much like what Terri puts on here to tease us. Although I think the person driving doesn’t ever allow a Dolly song to last past 30 seconds…and there “ain’t nuthin’ right ’bout that”…but the driver has longer arms than me and can hit the “next” button much faster than I can react to it…HOWEVER, I can 9 to 5 it every day at the gym and no one can stop me!!

Brad Paisley is a good ol’ WV boy…and I love him. He’s hell on a guitar…and it won me over when he played the majority of his concert with a guitar that had the WVU logo on it. His cds are fine and funny…but his live shows are the bomb! If he’d let me play with that WVU guitar, I’d take him home for supper.

Okay, time to hit the shower…after my workout today, I’ll make note of other music in my arsenal…and I may even tell you my ultimate music secret…you know the one artist or song that is a favorite that you don’t want people to know that you listen to. And you thought it was Madonna…not a chance.

  25. Jess Gage says:

Justed checked out Brandi on itunes and on her Live From Boston album she did a cover of Folsom Prion Blues. Terri you were right. :)

  26. Naomi says:

TC~ love all your picks and there will be a few i will be getting off itunes tomorrow.lol.

I hope its ok to add a something, non country, to the list.

Sometimes i like to just light some candles and listen to some music with not too much vocal added.

My current favorite is. Boney James~Send One You Love cd.
Theres a tune on there called, Stop, Look. Listen.. gets that smooth vibe goin on..
    Enjoy!!!

  27. wildcat831 says:

I love the Kathleen Edwards and Brandi Carlile records. I’ll have to check out the others.

One record I got recently that I really like is Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson’s “Rattlin’ Bones.” It’s mostly acoustic and I love their harmonies.

  28. AikoujOi says:

I’ll check that Brandi Carlile record out when I get the chance too.

  29. Lynn T. says:

I already love this space here. I’ll be back for my music I listen to in depth. Right now there are two singles, that I thoroughly enjoy that are honest and life happenings. Daryl Worley’s “Sounds Like Life To Me”, and Sugarlands “It Happens” when you hear them, a suggestion if you don’t already, turn it up!

  30. jen.r.kveum says:
