Terri says

This song, lyrically is probably, to me, the most symbolic of my body of work up to this point in my career. It is a little more light hearted, with a bit of a “tongue in cheek” vibe, but musically I love the delta blues approach, especially the intro and outro. The banjo was run through an amp simulator, and the drum loop was made by hitting a music stand…a very organic and very real track. In real life, people struggle, and the very simplest things can make them feel like a million bucks…it is all relative…it’s not having what you want, it’s wanting what you have right?.  Not always the case. In a lot of cases, the more you have, the more you want….and one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

Lyrics

Written by T Clark/T Shapiro/J Collins

She don’t dream of spring in Paris
Jettin off to Singapore
She just needs a quarter tank
To get her to the grocery store
She don’t buy filet mignon
She just wants some extra pork in her beans

It may not sound like much
But that’s the stuff that makes up a poor girls dream

She’s tired of haulin baskets
Down to the laundry mat
Dealin with the weirdos
And the stress of all of that
She’d rather put her dollar somewhere other than a washin machine

Well it may not sound like much
But that’s the stuff that makes up a poor girls dream
If you’ve got a million you want two
If you ain’t got nothin any little thing will do

She works on the clock
Punchin in & out for years
She’d like to take that double shift
And shift it down a gear
Go home and light a candle
Paint her toes a different color and just breathe

Well it may not sound like much
But that’s the stuff that makes up a poor girls dream
If you’ve got a million you want two
If you ain’t got nothin any little thing will do

A little piece of mind
Just a taste of what could be
It may not sound like much
But that’s the stuff that makes up poor girls dream

Yeah it may not sound like much
But that’s the stuff that makes up poor girls dream
A poor girls dream

  1. [...] The second song we get to preview is called “Poor Girls Dream.” It’s been quite a while since we heard Terri do anything like this. It makes me want to get a copy of the whole album so I can listen to the rest of the music. You can hear part of “Poor Girls Dream” here. [...]

I love all of the new songs especially this one! I can’t wait to go out to buy the CD. I’ve missed you and am soooo happy you’re back! :) I play your CDs ALL OF THE TIME, my son is getting tired of hearing the same songs over and over (not me, of course)so he’ll be happy to know I’ll be putting in a new CD soon! If you tour in Iowa, I’ll be the first in line to buy a ticket! :)

This one is a hit for sure!!! I can totally hear this song on the radio. (Gypsy Boots, too) Keep up the rock/blues/toe-tapping tunes!

The lyrics take me waaaaaay back – glad I’m finally in a place to afford a full tank but dang if the car doesn’t take premium! LOL :)

When you grow up with a good work ethic and the knowledge money doesn’t grow on trees…

You are soooo thankful for the little things in life. You look at what you have rather than what you don’t….

Although, sometimes we do dream. :-)

I was wondering when you were going to come out with a new CD now I know it has been worth the wate but then it always is. I love all your work but this album as a whole may just be the best you’ve done. They’re always great but this one seems to be songs that will be #1’s. Can’t wait till September, could the month just speed up.

I know alot of us can relate to this song.
How many times have we gone into a grocery store or Walmart and wished we could just put anything in our cart and not have to worry when we got to the checkout if we had enough money to pay for everything we needed.
