Terri Says
This song reminds me so much of my Mom and her Friend Pat. They have been friends for 40 years, and have stuck by each other through thick and thin. My Mom was the one with the kids and family, and the “perfect looking life” for so long. And now that my Mom is fighting for her life, I’ve heard her friend say so many times “It should be me”….
Lyrics
written by T Clark, K Rochelle
The first time we met I swore I hated you
When all you had to do was walk into the room
You got everyone’s attention just by bein you
Something I could never do
But always wanted to
You were beautiful, you had it all
Never bought yourself a drink
And sittin there just watchin you
I couldn’t help but think
If I could be you
I’d take your place
For an hour, for a day
I could do anything I wanted to
If I could have your perfect life
In a second I’d trade mine
There’s nothin in this world I wouldn’t do
If I could be you
Standin in line after too much wine in the ladies room
We started talkin bout the things men do
Yeah we’d been in each others shoes
Now it’s ten years later and we’ve shared everything
Tears, clothes & dreams
I helped you pick your wedding ring
I remember when I held your hand the day the baby came
How that whole first year you’d call in tears
So worn out you would say
If I could be you
I’d take your place
For an hour for a day
I’d do the kind of things that I used to
What I wouldn’t give sometimes
For a second that’s just mine
On days like this there’s nothin I wouldn’t do
If I could be you
Well time flies by and how things change
Sittin in this room today
There’s not much either one of us can say
The doctors have done all they can
I’m holding your hand again
Wishin I could take it all away
If I could be you
I’d take your place
For an hour for a day
And I’d gladly bear the pain you’re goin through
To give you back your perfect life
In a second I’d trade mine
There’s nothin in this world I wouldn’t do
Girl there’s nothin in this world I wouldn’t do
If I could be you

Thank you so much for this great song. It speaks to me and my friend. It’s the kind of song that touches the soul. I teared up reading the lyrics because they are so real for me. It’s the people that come into our lives and never leave song that is perfect for best friends. Thank you and keep up the great music!God bless.

Another GREAT vocal! Perhaps the best on the record so far. Terri’s voice just keeps getting better and better. Oh how i would rather hear something like this than anything shoved down our throats on the country radio top 10 spin list. TC trumps TS anyday!

I am not fond of them and wnat no more. You may know me, but being who i am i wish i was not. Hope to meet you soon.

You just made me cry.
I’ve been in two car wrecks, and have lots of pain…my mom tells me this all the time….eventhough she’s handicapped from car wrecks too.
I have a friend who gets really bad migraines, is on stronger pain pills than I am ….whenever we have a bad day…we always say this to each other.
Because we know…we know the hurt, and we love so much, we’re willing to suffer more so someone can live better.
It’s amazing how strong friendships are…thanks for this.
I hope your mom continues the fight. She’s a wonderful woman to have raised such a compassionate, understanding, loving daughter.

WOW! That song reminds me so much of the friendship I have with my friend Darla. We have been friends for 11 years and there are times I wish I could change somethigns in my life, but I know I can’t. Thanks for all your great music and I can’t wait for the new album. There are quite a few songs that I feel describe my life to a “T” and only hope you continue to make more great music to come.

Wow, this song is so relatable to everyone. I think we’ve all been in situations where we wish we could have someone else’s life, whether it be for a few mins, a day, or permanently. This song really hits home – nicely done TC and your songwriting buddy. Can’t wait to hear this in full!

TC, Never underestimate your ability to touch people with your music and never forget to thank the people who’ve helped you along the way for they may never know unless you tell them. Songs like this one can really tell a story of 2 people who’ve really helped each other along the way. Some people come into my life for just a short time while they need me and some stay forever, I surly would not be who I am without them.
I wish you the best always and know I am honored to have my photo of you as well as my name in your live CD. I wish you the best of luck with your new CD coming out….they talked about it on my local Country radio station today. I hope you have a great Birthday! I’ll always be praying for Mom and for you! Remember to always smile more them grumble! Take care of you and yours.

Humm my post did not take, maybe too long I’ll Post 2 times LOL. If the other one shows up…I am sorry, I gotta run! I am not a song writer but often Keith Urban can make me feel as though he is writing for me. Below are two slide shows I’ve make with a couple of Keith’s songs, “Only you can love me this way” is a word for word look at my life with Dave and I found it fitting to use it for a slide show from our trip with my inlaws for their 50th anniversary in July!

I can’t get through reading the words. I just can’t make myself listen to this yet. The parts that I have read are “major” words…and I have to “talk myself in to” actually hearing these words. Unfortunately, the emotions evoked just from reading the lyrics are those emotions that I still run from. I know, I need to suck it up and deal…I will eventually.

Oh, this is a winner, reminds me of my best friend, how 25 yrs ago we meet & became friends. Once again you have written from the heart, & created a beautiful song. Never stop writing with your heart Terri, it reminds us of the important things in our lifes, when sometimes we tend to forget.

I like this one TC, love the organic production. I totally understand this one, sometimes we find ourselves wanting to trade places with people for different reasons, some of them selfish some of them not. I definately have friends that were brought to mind by this set of lyrics. Good work.

Wow! This song, I bet, was a hard one to write… talk about a powerful song! You mom is lucky to have a friend like Pat. I have my best friend that I have known for 11 years now, we have gone through so much together that relating to that friendship bond in this song was emotional, in a good way… great song Terri and thank you for being you and putting your life into your music… I believe that is what music is all about and a part of me is so happy you got out of BNA and are doing your own thing and can be more true to yourself! Keep rocking and being you

Totally amazing song Terri!

Ok….as I wipe away the tears…..this one will hit a lot of people. Geeezzzz…..a real tear jerker for sure. I love it. It makes you think how sometimes we take things for granted when we have it all….and things are going perfectly in life. But how things can change in an instant……and we wonder why. But….thank God for that kind of friend like your mom has……may we all be blessed with friends who stand by us thru thick or thin.
Gosh, Terri, I am so glad you are free to write what’s on your heart……we are just being so blessed by this new music……God is using you more and more with every note you sing. You are an amazing singer/songwriter. Thank you for sharing more of this music with us. I am loving EVERY song so far.

Thanks for giving us twice much to sample. Hearing over a minute instead of 30 seconds is a nicer taste of what is to come in September.
Man, this is some powerful stuff. I hope country radio plays it, but if they don’t it will be cause they don’t know what to do with it. I have not heard such great writing on the radio in ages.
No matter what you know us hatbrats will be playing it nonstop and wishing more people could see what we see – pure talent all the way! The lyrics, the voice…it is just amazing stuff!

WOW, what a powerful song Terri. I think most of us at least once in our lives, have this very thought go through our minds. I know I do. I appreciate so much for this site and you. To express what I feel, through your music. Many artists over time have done this. You, however stand out, and really reach in, and make me feel, like being different, is just fabulous!
