Congratulations to Jacintha, our grand prize winner for the “I Want You To Smile” Mother’s Day contest!

Jacintha will receive a hand-written, autographed version of the lyrics of “Smile” from Terri, along with two signature hats for her and her mom. Here is Jacintha’s story:

Hi Terri,

This is our favourite picture of my mom and me at the 2012 Calgary stampede. I love my mom more than anything; she is my best friend. Our favourite memory together was this past summer when we travelled Alberta together for three weeks. We backpacked across Alberta just the two of us and had a WONDERFUL time. Our favourite had to be the week at the Calgary Stampede!! We loved spending time there and going to the rodeo!! We also got to meet Paul Brandt there, which was pretty awesome!

Another one of our favourite memories will be happening today. My mom has been in the hospital for the past two months. She had a brain aneurysm and hemorrhage at the beginning of March, and today is the day she finally gets to come home !! Ever since the day it happened, I have not left my mom’s side. I have been with her every single day and slept with her at the hospital. The past two months have been so difficult on us but being together all the time, made it a lot easier. I am so lucky that she is doing better and recovering! So today, when we leave the hospital and come home, it will definitely be one of our favourite memories as well.

For Christmas my brother had bought my mom and me tickets to go to your concert in Montreal this year. Unfortunately, seeing as she was in the hospital, she couldn’t go. I still came to the concert, it was emotional but I was so happy to see you in person! I wished my mom could have been there, but we will definitely be back together to see you at another concert someday. I bought my mom and me both matching T-Shirts from your concert as a promise to her that we will go see one of your concerts together when she is doing better.

This is our story, and our favourite memories together; I hope you enjoyed it!

UPDATE: My mom is home now, we came home from the hospital the day I submitted the story. She is doing much better. She still has to take it easy and not tire herself, but she is walking, going outside, and doing some things she enjoys now. I actually haven’t gone back to school or work since it happened, I took time off so that I could help take care of her, so we are spending all of our time together during her recovery. Slowly, but surely, she is recovering and doing much better every day.

Congratulations again to Jacintha and a BIG thank you to everyone for sharing your stories with us this year. We received many wonderful, heartfelt stories this Mother’s Day and are preparing a tribute to all of our Hat Brats mothers right now. Stay tuned for more information!

Nothing’s Better Than Terri Clark & Emerson Drive

Terri Clark might belt out that she’s got better things to do but there was nothing better than Sunday night’s show at Kewadin Casino’s Dream Makers Theatre featuring two Canadian country music acts; Emerson Drive and Miss Terri Clark herself.

Opening the show was the wildly entertainment group Emerson Drive from Grande Prairie, Alberta. Front man Brad Mates informed the audience that 13 years ago marked their Kewadin Casino debut and he noted that it was “surreal to be back, thanks for having us.” The group played a 45-minute opening set including hits I Should Be Sleeping, Moments and She’s My Kind of Crazy.

Terri Clark Wows in North Bay

North Bay - Country sweetheart, Terri Clark, wowed a packed house at the Capital Centre in North Bay Ontario last night with her endearing personality and strong vocals.

Opening for Terri was Kira Isabella, an Ottawa native, who is up for “Breakthrough Artist of the Year” at the JUNO award ceremonies on April 21st. The young singer who has been performing and writing since she was 9 years old sang songs from her 2012 debut album “Love Me Like That” to an appreciative audience.

Terri, who grew up in Medicine Hat, Alberta, gave the crowd their money’s worth by running the gamut with a collection of her own songs such as “Girls Lie Too” and “Better things to Do” as well as some country favorites fronted by a mic stand given to her by the Grand Ole Opry.

Released in November, Clark’s latest record Classic, sees the established musician revisiting the song catalogues of some of country music’s most legendary voices including Emmylou Harris, Tanya Tucker, Reba McEntire and more.

The album was done out of passion for the music that inspired her.

There is a reason Terri Clark played not one, but two sold-out shows Sunday at Festival Place in Sherwood Park, Alberta, she is- in a word – Classic. The only Canadian female country artist to be inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, Clark weaved together a set list that featured a collection of songs spanning her two decade career, as well as songs off her new album, Classic, Clark’s take on the songs that inspired her to become an artist. Clad in a green leather jacket, fitting as the show was on St. Patrick’s Day, and a cowboy hat in typical Clark fashion, the Medicine Hat native opened with the classic ‘Love Is a Rose’ originally performed by Linda Ronstadt. After a string of her own hits, Clark snuck off stage only to reappear in her long, pink, beaded Opry jacked in front of a projection of the Grand Ole Opry stage. The member shared the story of how she approached the Opry telling them wanted to recreate a one of the world famous WSM Grand Ole Opry microphone stands; wanting to bring a piece of the world famous stage to those of us north of the border who “may never get to experience it for ourselves.” In response, to Clark’ suggestion the Opry told her to just “take one with her,” and so there it stood, the finishing touch to set the mood for Clark’s take on the classic tunes. After her set of Classics, the multiple CCMA winner, brought out a steel guitar for her hit ‘Gypsy Boots’ before busting out a white acoustic guitar featuring a Canadian flag and red maple leaf amongst cheers from the crowd. Clark closed the show with the ‘Northern Girl’ a song that has resonated with many Canadians, before finishing her set with her first single, and smash-hit, ‘Better Things to Do’, and an encore featuring ‘We’re Here for a Good Time’.
