I know, I know. I’ve been remiss in updating my journal.
It’s been a crazy year. Tons of change. I don’t really know where to begin but I will start with using the word “Grateful.” The Canadian tour to support the “Classic” record was a huge success and sold out across the board in almost every venue. Immediately following the tour, I was settling in for a summer of fishing when I got a phone call from my old friend Blair Garner about the launch of his new morning radio show on NASH-FM in New York City called “America’s Morning Show.” We had several long conversations about his exciting vision and things to come and I officially joined the cast on June 1, 2013. I started out doing 3 days a week and was recently “promoted” to full-time at 5 days a week. The early hours are a killer but the gig is sooooo much fun! I love working with Blair, Chuck Wicks, and the entire staff. I haven’t had this much stability in 20 years. And for those wondering -Yes, it will affect my touring. I will most likely only be doing 20-25 tour dates next year but I will do my very best to take care of my health and not let either the radio show or my artist career suffer.
Speaking of my artist career – Michael Knox is on board to produce my next album! We start in February. I have been writing some, however, Michael was brought in not only for his success producing hit albums on Jason Aldean and Thomas Rhett, but I have known him for 20 years as a real song guy in Nashville. He will bring a lot of incredible songs to the table that I didn’t write and has the access to a wealth of wonderful songwriters. I really look forward to recording with him. I am also doing something different this time around by making a crowd-funded album with PledgeMusic. Things have changed so much in our industry that I feel like it’s a good time for me to get my fans more involved and included in this process with the chance to hear the music first. I have often said my fan base is the best on the planet and I am pretty sure we will be blown away with the participation from all of you. Stay tuned for more info around the end of January on all of that.
The Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville made me their Spotlight Artist with an exhibit running Sept – Jan 1. This was a lifelong dream of mine come true. I think every aspiring artist coming to Nashville for the first time walks through those halls daydreaming about a case with their guitars and clothes displayed. Seriously. What else can I say about it? Still in awe of it all.
Also, last but not least the Fans Choice Award at the CCMAS shocked me so much I had to rub my eyes and thought I was still dreaming when I woke up to all the congrats texts. Seriously. Again. Wow. And thank you guys so much. I felt like an ass for not being there but I honestly didn’t expect anyone to really miss me or to win anything. You never cease to amaze me.
And the voting goes on with the Most Beautiful Woman poll in Country Weekly. Really? #3? That’s a lot of information for me to process. I suppose I should take the tags off my clothes before I wear them now. Thanks for the votes.
More to come. Sorry it’s taken so long. I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe holiday season and a Happy New Year. See you soon!!
