There’s absolutely nothing not to like about Terri Clark’s newest release, Classic. Period. If left at that, this could very well be the shortest review ever. But it’s worth pointing out Classic’s many merits.
As the title implies, the album is a collection of country standards and personal favorites performed by Terri—some solo and some with the help of her country music pals, including fellow Canadians Jann Arden, on an absolutely goose-bump-inducing version of Patsy Cline’s “Leaving on Your Mind,” and Dean Brody, on a thumping rendition of the Hank Snow classic “Movin’ On.”
It’s pure fun to hear Reba McEntire re-sing her own hit “How Blue” as a duet, as well as Tanya Tucker on her signature song, “Delta Dawn.” And pairing Terri with Dierks Bentley for “Golden Ring” is a religious experience. But she doesn’t have to rely on her celebrity friends to win with Classic. Terri’s solo version of Glen Campbell’s “Gentle on My Mind” is insanely sweet and good.
